While a traditional cosmetic pedicure focuses on making your toenails look as good as possible, and gets rid of some dead skin, it ignores real problems and sometimes creates them. Not to mention, your feet are on display in front of all the other customers.

Unlike nail salons, our professionals are trained to examine and treat foot and nail disorders using advanced equipment and tools and the strictest hygiene protocols. A medical pedicure is often performed in the private setting of a medical clinic.

What Is Medical Pedicure?

Medical pedicures are carried out by qualified chiropodists and podiatrists who have had the training and skill development to identify foot conditions and undertake safe remedial work such as verruca removal, fungal nail treatment and correction of ingrowing toenails. It means that you get more than just a simple cosmetic procedure.

A medical pedicure focuses on the hygienic and aesthetics care of the toenails and the soles of the feet. This service is offered in a private setting, which helps promote safety and relaxation.

A medical pedicure adheres to the highest levels of sanitation. Standards should exceed OSHA (Occupational Safety and Health Administration) standards for maintaining a clean environment and preventing the spread of germs, fungus and diseases.

A medical pedicure is a non-invasive, dry procedure performed by highly skilled foot care specialists who combine podiatry with nail care.

Medical Pedicure Good For Feet

Medical Pedicures are a great way to ensure you look after your feet.

· A regular pedicure can support chiropody if you suffer from foot problems. This may prevent you from needing further treatment.

· A pedicure can also help your posture you naturally walk more comfortably on cared-for feet.

· Pedicures can also soothe and relax you when combined with other treatments. Once your pedicurist has massaged several softening and soothing creams into your feet, you may feel you are walking on air

Different kinds of Medi-pedicure

Medi-Pedicures vary depending on the spa and pedicurist, but you can usually find one perfect for you by the description on a spa menu.

· French pedicure: a classic which uses long-lasting nail varnish, whitens the tip and squares off your toenails

· Intensive paraffin wax pedicure: warm wax is rubbed into your nails, feet, and lower legs to moisturise and soften them

· Gel pedicure: clear or coloured gel is bonded to your nails with UV light for a long-lasting glossy finish

· Luxury pedicure: a whole-foot treatment usually including massage, softened paraffin wax and heated towels, or a wrap which warms and soothes your feet as well as softening and hydrating your nails.

What Happens During a Medi Pedi Exactly?

After an evaluation on your feet, we dedicate the first half hour to cleaning the feet and toe nails, trimming and polishing nails, and if necessary, removing calluses, corns and ingrown nails.

Medical pedicures can be used to treat anything from: Thick skin and nails, Damaged and/or weakened nails, Warts, blisters, calluses and corns, Blisters, Calluses, Athlete’s foot, Splinters, Ingrown toe nails, Yellow nails, Nail discoloration, Cracked heels.

Many pedicurists will also massage your lower legs and maybe give an acupressure or reflexology-based foot massage to help relax you. Some pedicures will include the use of hot stones. Others use mud, wraps and even algae. High quality toenail polish will be applied at the end of your pedicure.

The process takes about 35 minutes to 1 hr depending on the condition of the feet.

The medi-pedi treatment includes:

  • A full assessment and consultation on the condition of feet, skin and toenails
  • Extensive cleaning and cleansing
  • Sanding, buffing and shaping of the nails to remove dead cells and achieve maximum comfort
  • Removal of dead skin and buffing of the feet
  • Removal of blisters, corns and ingrown toenails
  • Smoothing out of calluses and dry, cracked heels
  • Application of nail polish, if requested (Must bring your own)

If people want to have regular treatments to remove a build-up of skin, we do use scalpels and drills to get feet back to baby bottom smooth which a traditional treatment cannot do.

While you might walk into your appointment with not the most attractive looking feet, Podiatrist explains that you’ll walk out a new person.

The Benefits of a Medical Pedicure

Whether you are male or female, young or old, medical pedicures go way beyond the simple cosmetic nail shaping and polish you may get from a high street beauty parlour (though you can get those too).

If you spend a lot of time on your feet, have been squeezing your toes into uncomfortable shoes, engage in regular sports activity or suffer from a condition such as diabetes, going to a qualified professional makes even more sense.

Medical pedicures can look at different aspects of your feet including the condition of your skin and even the bones underneath. They have the appropriate tools on hand, which high street pedicurists generally don’t, as well as more sophisticated technologies.

Because the benefits of a medical pedicure are more than just cosmetic, we think everyone would be better off with a medi-pedi. However, medical pedicures are crucial for:

  • Diabetic patients
  • Arthritis sufferers
  • Runners
  • Ballet and other dance professionals
  • Athletes and fitness pros
  • People who wear high heels daily
